Bottom fishing, 12/12

Had a very good day. Went through 24 pounds of squid…we quit when we ran out of bait. Fished for just a bit over 4 hours.
Beautiful ocean, great time with friends. Brought home over 100 bottom dwellers, had to throw back at least a dozen ARS. Probably threw back more bottom fish than we brought back.
Some nice trigger, biggest was 8 pounds.
Happy birthday and happy anniversary to some on board with us. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer day!

great report…is 24lbs average use for you? heck, I’ve come home with less FISH than that!

Bonzo, no, not average at all, usually about 10 to 15 pounds of squid. Had a lot of throwbacks yesterday.

Anymore, we only take a pound or two of squid. We use squid until we catch a trash fish or two then cut them up and forget about the squid. Fresh cut bait seems to work just as well.

Man that’s a ton of squid. we had an epic day as well, and managed to use mostly tomtates for bait or we also may have been approaching 30 lbs of squid. Three guys pulled in plenty of keepers highlighted by a gag, very large triggers all caught sight fishing, three triple tails, couple very large ajs, and of course he obligatory bsb and b liners. We caught so many fish we had to do the unthinkable and remove the beer from the cooler to make room. Also managed to catch a seafox fishing so close to me 35 miles out, I could have thrown a dock line to raft up. All in all a great day with flat calm waters for most of it.

OH no, never sacrifice the beer! LOL! Glad you had a good day also, we seldom catch tomtates. Thus, we carry an extra amount of squid, it is in the bait freezer anyway, so no big deal. :)
