Had the pleasure of fishing with a CF.com celebrity: DFreedom & his son Connor along with Mike & Brandon.
Ride out was pleasant.
Bait @ 41004 was easy pickings, Mike thought it fitting to decorate the buoy with a quality rig too!
Ran up to 175’ and dropped cigars, live baits & squid.
Rods doubled over on one pass I figured to be major AJ’s. Pulling drag and fighting hard all the way up. Turned out to be big silver ashcan lids. Big 'un ran 26# on the old brass scale.
Did not have any Discovery Channel members aboard (Malcolm or Paul) so we figured we’d ice them down and if they weren’t good eating, Doug’s wife could use them in her herb garden. (since learned - African Pompano - maybe not going into the garden, we’ll see)
Five of those critters wore out the Reel team.
Drifted & ran slow: blue fish and had a bunch of 'cudas helping themselves to several pinkies and the blue. Gave them a headache, no more bothering us.
Moved into 120’ and put a few brown, mutton snappers, ARS, triggers, b-liners, small bsb and some more pinkies on ice.
Had a good breeze all day and light cloud cover half the time, not such a scorcher as it could have been.
DFreedom schooled us - how to catch a smaller fish than the bait fish dropped down.
I can’t thank Dave enough for an absolutely awesome day. Even going out looked iffy on Saturday but Dave made the call and the right call it was. The man knows how to put you on the fish. Those African Pompano were a blast to catch and fight like hell. Looking forward to eating some tonight. Never caught so many different species in one day. I have to say that yesterday was one of the best days of fishing in my life! Connor and I were both exhausted when we got home last night but we had such a good time.
And, for the record, that “little” fish I am holding up was much larger in person. Thanks again Dave, enjoyed fishing with you, Mike and Brandon. I did miss Malcom’s floor show.

I gotta admit, after a long day on the water, the ride out and back in and fighting some of those fish, I was worn out on Monday. Driving back to Columbia Sunday night was rough.
Thanks for the stache compliment Bart. It’s gotten mighty gray.
Sorry you weren’t out there Malcom, we missed your floor show and Mike hogged all the big ARS. Tell Dave to give you some of his AP, it is quite tasty.
