bottom fishing and Sailfish in 87 ft!!

Couldn’t get a crew for the big boat so said screw it and brought the striper rig down(21 ft carolina skiff).

Headed out to red banks to some spots i wanted to explore, paid off kept 5 big BSB,4 b liners,5 triggers,i speckle hind grouper and the worst feeling of the day having to release 4 big wouldn’t even have to measure endangered ARS…the Minn Kota with i pilot is the bomb, the virtual anchor works great and holds you right over your spot.Someone needs to develop one of these for a big boat…

well after 3 hrs of bottom fishing i had some super duper secret trolling lures i have wanted to try, headed in and south trolling the hogy baits behind some 2 oz weighted mylar lures, passed by the garden a few King fisherman there about 3 miles south from there 1 of the reels goes off(oh yeah it was a penn 330 gti)reel in the other line to see it was bit in half,Cattadict is handling the other line, looks like a small dolphin,it jumps it runs, get the gaff ready as it gets close and i notice its not a dolphin its a slinger sailfish how cool is that, get it along side the boat, remove the hook revive and sent back to grow bigger.

bumpy ride home but hey its a Skiff, great day tried some stuff that most say won’t work and we brought home some fish, which we actually hadn’t planned for, hard to throw back 17-19in BSB…

A slinger sail fish! I like it!

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

There are no fish at the Red Banks especially in a 21 footer ; )
Sounds like a cool trip. Thanks for sharing.

It was a fairly epic trip in a small boat. I don’t think we followed any of the rules, and caught some great fish. Skiff:1 Sailfish:0

What are you talking about? I go out in a 21 all the time. Throws less wake to hurt the coastal sealife and stuff you know? Think of how much better the skiff is for the whales.*
I am just impressed with how you fished at least 20 acres of hard bottom with your trolling motor - as SAFMC says there is only one red snapper per 5+ acres of hard bottom.
You must have some awesome batteries in that whale jumper.
