I fish out of MI about once a year, so really know nothing about the bottom fishing up that way. Really know very little about bottom fishing in general actually. Looking to go out of MI Nov 1 weekend weather permitting and would like to target grouper, as I have never caught one. Any advice would be greatly welcomed. What approx depth are grouper in this time of year? Any spots in particular one may want to target? Not looking for specific numbers (Although would gladly take a few) but would like to get in a generally productive area if at all possible.
Do most of you anchor up when bottom/grouper fishing? its all very new but wanting to give it a try.
Not too proud, any advice accepted.
Thanks
Whew, I knew bottom numbers were sacred…haha, its all good, not looking for any numbers just trying to get a basic depth to start looking for grouper and some other good bottom fish. Shockingly I can usually find the endangered black sea bass.
Get a maps unique chart and go out to the parking lot. A little past it actually. More live bottom out there than you can fish. Look for it in 90-120’. Also the horseshoe area is not bad. You can get Gags in 60-70’ there.
THanks for the reply, all three of them…haha I will definitely head in that direction and give it a try. Already have the maps, so I will grab some numbers from there.
Damm smart/stupid phones.
Hey I am just happy to get some intel. Any idea how far out the kings are this time of year? We get very few opportunities, so we try to squeeze in max fishing every time we hit the water, sun up till sun down.
