Met Jeff (jjfishing) here on the forum in the fishing match up section. First time that I’ve actually met up with another fisherman from the forum and had the chance to jump on their boat. Jeff was an awesome captain we had a good day fishing. We went out on Sunday Labor Day weekend. Headed about 40 miles out and hit a lot of different spots.
5 guys fishing caught 25 vermillion snapper, 2 cobia, 1 amberjack, a handful of BSB, 2 red snapper (too bad we couldn’t keep them) and 1 porgy. Had 3 or 4 sharks on lines managed to get one to the surface. Saw several tiger sharks 6-8 foot range hanging around the boat, one time with a group of cobia swimming alongside. The other guys claim they saw a hammerhead swim up to the boat, of course while I was busy with some beers.

Chris, thanks for posting some pictures. all of my guys were doing family stuff for the holiday weekend so I posted here for some anglers and came up with a great bunch of guy and the fish were hungry. We couldn’t have ask for better weather. flat water, blue skies, very little current. we had fish swimming up to the boat all day, cobia, several different species of sharks, AJ’s, Barracudas and a school of spades. It was alittle HOT
as you can see we had the sun shade up which made a big difference. We caught fish from the first drop at 9am to lines in at 3:45. mostly squid and cut bait. we had no live bait and didn’t catch on bucktails or jigs.
the drift line on top with a whole squid was responsible for one of the two cobia.
Good trip guys, lets do it again some time.

just a simple 1-1/2 alum.tube bent 90 deg on one end to insert into two upper rod holders, an end connector of the same material. I had my wife make the canopy out of spandex and bought two fiberglass bows from boaters world used to support boat covers.
It really makes a huge difference on those extremely hot days. I’ve had some guys showing signs of heat exhaustion from a long day in the sun and decided to make something. If there’s any interest I’ll take some pictures next weekend.
