Bottom goodies but cornholed

Took my Dad, brother and his son out for a little bottom bouncing on Sunday. Ran out of GT headed for vermillion. Got there and started drifting over a small wreck area and caught a few beeliners and a trigger. About half hr and another boat shows up pulls up right next to us and commences to throwing lines out. Ok no worries its a small wreck. Several drifts beside each other and trying to set up so i don’t bump into them. I quess i drifted a little to far and lost my seat as they went in and anchored right over the spot we were hooking fish , hmm now i can’t get to it without drifting over them.
I asked in a calm voice what there boat name was as it was not apparent. They said it didn’t have one. So can’t call them out specifically. I sugessted that it was a big ocean and seeing how they enjoyed this one spot much that i was going to find another one.
realizing getting upset was going to do nothing for my day i moved on. Ran off to another live reef and started again in solitude. My Dad seemed to have fun pulling up beliners and triggers. then mr AJ joined in and he got an initiation to the reef donkey. doing pretty good getting back all the line it stole cussing the whole time then went kinda slack. Pulled up the head of a large amber jack, the rest bit clean off. hmm I put a big hook in that head on a 50w and sent it back down to see if the thief was still hungry. He was and grabbed that sucker and took off.DAD was done so my 15yr old nephew took the challenge and battled a big shark over 8ft to the boat after a valiant fight. Hook was nearly straight as i released it.
We also got covered up by a school of the smallest mahi i’d ever seen. 50 or so most about 8-12 inches.
didn’t bother them but enjoyed feeding them scraps so we can catch em next year.
Ended the day with 3 limits of be-liners most pretty good size.
6 triggers
2 keeper sea bass
some porgys
And good day and stories to share with family.
My dad is gettin older and may not be to many of these oportunities left so glad to have this on

Great report, I’m glad you guys got out there and made some memories. It takes an act of congress to get my father out on the ocean anymore… Kudos for not letting a jack@ss ruin your day. There are much bigger things to worry about.

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

Nice report and good on ya getting out there. I keep telling myself I’m going to get back soon but all I seem to have time for is short evening hunting trips. Spend as much time with the old man as you can.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

The ahole was really doing you a favor. Some of the biggest scamps around live within 5 miles of the V wreck. For example run 126 for .531 from the wreck and you should find a nice ledge.

Your right live bait
It was just a starting point and i never really do that well right over the V wreck cause it gets fished so much. I’ll try your info next turn out as i never do well on grouper must be doing something wrong or in the wrong place. As for the cornholer i wasn’t really mad just asstounded at the lack of boating edicate (misspelled) displayed by said boat no worries we had a fine day after all. There is absolutely no reason to bump fiberglass on the big ocean.
However if the girls he had on board were dressed for warmer weather i might have stayed for awhile

What was your water depth and temp, please? I went to C60 2 weeks back; not many eatin’ fish there, don’t want to use that much fuel again unless the bigger seabass are out there.
thanks, NaClH20
BTW, I pulled up within 50 ft of a boat at Capers last year and they got all biled up about it. Seems like 50 ft is OK when everybody is bottom fishing. I moved.

Water temp is still in the 70s,highest was 76 have had the most luck with larger bottom dwellers fishing a bit deeper out of GT. The close in reefs seem to get to much pressure as there are less choices here than down chas way. When i stay in i bail alot of smalls. There is some deeper water and good legdes and reef out around and past the richmond wreck , thats about 13mi from jetties just search around in 70-80ft. A little farther out 100-200 ft we do well on triggers. Hector reef or horshoe. Vermillion is good sometimes and alot of stuff around it not nessacarily on it.I can’t tell ya how or where to catch grouper up here simply haven’t figured it out consistently.
I do know the black fin tuna and whahoo are on on the ledge early based on my last report. As for distance to other boats if all anchored i dont care how close, but if first guy there is drifting i think its bad edicate to anchor in his obvious drift. just saying.
