Bottom Paint

My boat which has been kept in the water has anti-fouling paint which has seriously affected performance. I plan to put it back in a dry stack slip and want to repaint with a paint that will slide through the water better. Suggestions?

Is taking the bottom paint off, repainting with a teflon based paint (can’t remember the name…Dupont?) and putting on a lift out of the question?

Is it really the paint that is effecting the performance? Could it be something else…barnacles, water in hull, engine (s) not tuned, etc, etc.?

The bottom appears clean. My thought is the anti-fouling paint isn’t as slick as gel coat so it created additional drag.

I think you’re talking about only gaining, maybe, 1 mph if that, by removing bottom paint and repainting. This is assuming that the bottom is clean of any growth on it. Be pricey to remove and repaint.

Just removed bottom paint on my boat and repainted. Will run this weekend and post mph gains.
