Does bottom paint make a boat sell for less than w/o bottom paint:question: I would like to leave my boat in water for a few months & can’t decide to paint it. It is on a tralier now but, live 80 miles for Charleston; It is a hassle to drag, spend nite & boat ramp to get fish’in. All comments are helpful.[8D
I would pay substantially more for a boat I wanted to not have bottom paint versus one that had it…
When bottom paint is not needed, it is a major issue to remove…
Perhaps you could find somewhere with a jet dock or lift so that you would not have to put on bottom paint but could still keep it at the water. You could also look into a dry stack.
dry stack would be the cheapest route in my openion.
i got a buddy with a Grady and during the dolphin bite he keeps his boat in the dry stack in charleston. when the bite slowes down he moves it back to lake murray where he lives.
“The amount of money I’ll be makin would hurt your parents feelings. Remember the class where I taught you all how to make it rain? That’s what I’ll be doin every night, dollar…dollar…bills y’all.”
I second the dry stack if you are only going to do it a few months a year. However, if you want the boat bottom painted I would be more than happy to do it for you. Cost would be $20.00/ft plus materials and approximately two days.
May have yard space for rent depending on the time of year. It would keep you from trailering the boat back and forth.

I would call around. This time of year will probably be tough to find a couple month dry stack, but you can spend an hour on the phone and figure it out. I have never had any issue selling any of my boats that have bottom paint near top dollar, but I keep my boats in flawless condition. For a couple months, I probably wouldn’t paint the bottom. Magwoods, Shem Creek, Remleys, Daniel Island, and Riverside Marina are a couple to start with. There are more, but these are the first to come to mind.
You may consider a storage area where you can leave it on the trailer. My brother lives in Fayetteville, NC and was working in Goose Creek for 3 months so he just rented gated storage with a video cam security system and would pick up the boat in the afternoons and go fish the lower lake. They also had a wash pad he could use. I think he said he was paying $60 a month to store it. Just make sure you have 24 hour access.

It depends on the boat and the potential buyer. On a boat that would be expected to have bottom paint (mine is one), bottom paint in good condition would be a plus, not a minus. It would save the potential buyer a couple thousand dollars.
On a smaller boat, bottom paint might be a negative, depending on the potential buyer’s intended use.
