What is the standard rig you guys use for bait fishing with cut mullet? Is it a fish finder rig? What size hooks and leader length. Thanks in advance
Carolina rig with circle hooks 3/0.
I use same as jdem.
same here…except a 1/0 or 2/0 circle hook.

14’ Skiff-“Redfish Reaper”

2/0 for smaller finger mullet hooked in the back behind dorsal fin,(cut 2 slits in belly to let the stink out, fish whole)
4/0 for larger chunks
Owner tournament circle hooks (no offset)
12" of 30lb mono leader
Bryant what is a fish finder?
Also called a Single drop or double drop.
I dont typically use them because if your line breaks, that fish has to drag the sinker and rig around with them. I’ve caught reds with wire leaders from fish finders rigs half hanging out their exit.
If your line breaks on a carolina rig, the weight “should” fall off and the fish is just left with the mono leader and a swivel.
This is a fish finder. It allows you to hook the weight to it and it will freely slide up and down the line on the real side of the line before the swivel, leader, hook like a carolina rig. It “should” fall off if the my line broke just as with a carolina rig… or it would stay on my rod and I would lose the leader and hook. Never had one break except on the leader side of the swivel.
Picture of a fish finder is below. It allows for you to use really heavy weight in current and still allow the bait to move freely. You can also feed the line to the fish for flounder or whatever while they nimble with out any feeling the weight

In my opinion the fishfinder and carolina rig are pretty much the same and fish the same way. What I like about the fishfinder set up is that I can easily remove and exhange the weight. So I don’t have 1-2 oz weight bouncing around on the rod (and tangling lines) while moving place to place and I can easily adjust weight amount or type for conditions.
DO yall think the lighter the better? I have found sometimes I want to control where the fish can go. But if the weight is to light the baitfish with current can move it.
