was covered in fish last nite , determined to get a tailer otf , had 3 nice ops on fish in fairly mild grass wit some pockets , fly placed perfect just for my ****ing crab fly to sit above there heads. i was on aggressive happy fish all tailin face barried in the mud what ****ing fly should i use to get down through the grass . bout to looseit. been usin a quarter sized crab pattern but it sucks
you need some lead eyes!
I’ve said it a million times, they kill a copperhead with small lead eyes to make it sink. i think they see em better as well. I always start with the copperhead. Once I catch a few, I might start experimenting with different flys. I’m no expert, thats for sure. If I can do it, anybody can.
medium lead eyes or you must wait and cast when they are cruisin.
i like to use small lead eyes and a Sculpin wool from MontanaFly Co. not only does it “cushion” the entry of the fly, it absorbs water and helps it sink faster.
i bought a crab pattern a few yrs ago called the “permitator” and it looked so real id eat the mofo, but i have never seen fish so terrified of a fly till this un. my best pattern is so simple its really just a profile, but it hammers em.
