Bow eye pulling out

How hard should you be able to pull on your bow eye on a 20’6" Deep V, Center Console?
I run it up on the trailer and winch it the last few inches. While winching you can see the bow eye pull out of the hull about a 1/4".

Inside the anchor hold I noticed the backside of the eye is sinking into the fiberglass.

I would think that part of the boat would be solid fiberglass but it appears there is space between the wall of the anchor well and the hull.

Is this normal? How would you reinforce this area to handle the load/stress of dragging the boat up the trailer?

I’m no expert, but there is probably a void between the hull and deck cap. I would try to put a 1/4" thick backing plate, as big as room will allow, on the inside. A lot of the bow eyes I’ve seen just have washers & nuts. A bigger backing plate will help distribute the load.

No, it’s not normal! It’s also very dangerous. If that eye pops out under a couple thousand pounds of winch pressure and hits you in the head, it will kill you. It’s not a question of if, just a matter of when. Get that fixed, please!

Remove the eye, reinforce with plenty of glass, then a large backing plate.

I’ve tried 4200 and 2"x6"x1/4" aluminum stock a couple layers thick and it still flexes the bow eye enough to break the seal and is continuing to sink into the fiberglass. The aluminum covers the entire flat area available. My biggest concern is will this eventually sink through my anchor well wall? Why is there a gap between the anchor wall and hull? Is this area engineered to allow for the inner hull and outter hull to flex seperately? Do I need to drag this thing over to Goose Creek and have the manufacturer fix under the limited lifetime warranty?

Yea man, that is not good. I would have it over there asap. Like cracker Larry said, That thing could kill you.

get tehm to fix it
it shouldn’t be mounted that way
sounds like the box liner is giving, not the hull, but it still shouldn’t move, PERIOD
let them fix it

Ok,
Thanks guys. I’ll be making a phone call and see what they have to say.
No worries about safety. The hull is fine, it’s just the box liner as Chris said. It’s not sinking through the hull.
