Bow Eye/U-bolt Installation

I want to install stainless steel u-bolts/bow eyes on the top/bow of my kayaks. I want to do this to use as an anchor point when I haul them in the bed of my truck and to chain up to prevent theft. Other than it being hard to drill that first hole (psychologically), is there any reason not to install these on my yaks? I defer to the expertise of the yakkers here at CF.

Thanks

Nope. Be sure to put a good sized backer plate behind it. You want someone to realize they’re destroying it by stealing it.

The downside may be more stuff to catch hooks / lures on.

We put them on the stern of all of our rental boats. It’s not the first hole you need to worry about, it’s lining up that second hole! Use some rubber backed washers to help seal the hole, and you should be good!

I added a decent sized one to the bow of my Revo, so I could strap it down to the bumper of my Pontiac Sunfire. Works great.

Both recommendations above are recommended… Large Backer plate and rubber washers. Put locking nuts inside and on top of yak, to apply pressure to the washers and make a seal, as well as hld the u bolt in place.

Those who can’t fish, spend too much on seafood!
