Found a little pond/lake that is covered with bow fin striking top water. Not sure what they are after, either minnows or water bugs. I took about 30 with plastic worms bumping the bottom, and took 3 skipping plastics on top. Anyone ever try with a fly?
Killed them on white rabit fur “worms” on Little Pee Dee River back in the day.

I’ve never got caught one, but it can definitely be done. I’ve done a bunch of research. Definitely jealous of this water that you’ve found. I live in TN now. Not many bowfin around Nashville. Good luck. I’d just try various streamers underneath and some kind of diver on the surface. Good Luck! Post up a report if you get em.
Bass popper, bullfrog pattern has worked for me in ponds.

These fish may not be hitting at anything they gulp air like gar do. Bright colors oranges, whites, yellows, and greens have always worked for me
fish sleep repeat
We have them up in Virginia but I’ve never caught one. They look like snakeheads, and if they act and fight like snakeheads they would be awesome.

I have to say they are a hard fighting fish. Really want to get back up there with the fly rod and work on them.
I’ve had luck with a large chartreuse and white clouser with some flash tied in.
