bow thrusters

who around here installs bow thrusters?
what’s the ballpark figure for parts and installation?

Happy boatin’ y’all!!

Dont know why you would need one for a boat unless its 40+ feet, but the lewmar bow thrusters are around 1,200 for the low to middle end.

Normally they are installed at the boat factory or provisions for installation are made there. Lot of work to install one after the fact, can be done, but won’t be cheap. Installation price would vary greatly depending on the construction and layout of the boat.

Florida bow thruster does a lot of installations around here, they scedule with teh boat yard when you have teh boat hauled, they show up with a service van with all teh tools and gear, they even have a huge hole saw on a jig that makes a smooth even cut thru the bow for the thruter tube. Last one they did on a 32 express was around $4000 installed. Actually, the twin gas boats between 30-40 ft need thruster more that the 40 + diesel boats. The diesel boat(big wheels, high torque) move much better using the engines than the gas boats do(small wheels, low torque). theres soem one else doing mobile installations like Florida Bow Thruster, but I can’t think of the name( Imtra ?)

$4000… ouch!!
I might have to get by without it for a while…
Thanks for the info.

Happy boatin’ y’all!!

I’d venture to say that 4k is on the cheap side as well.! Thier a nice thing to have on a big boat for sure, but not that nice.

I’ve seen some similar to that, but I can’t bring myself to put something that ugly on my boat.
I’m going to talk to the fountain factory on monday and see how much they’ll charge

Happy boatin’ y’all!!

Chris, you don’t need bow thrusters on the boat you’re looking at, man. Trust me. I’ve had two 31 Fountains, a 34, and a 38. I’ll be happy to help you “break it in” and get you a little more comfy with it, if you want, but bow thrusters are for huge boats, like 50+ foot sporties and motoryachts (and even on the 50-60-footers, they often aren’t necessary). Take that money and put it in the bank or spend it on some nice rods and reels.

LOL. I just looked at that video. Man, please don’t you even THINK about putting that jimmy-rigged thing-a-ma-jig on a Fountain. That is one silly contraption.
