Bowen Island Rd access

I think somebody told me that you are allowed to drop a yak in from what looks like a small ramp at the end of the road. Maybe a small fee??? How about your vehicle will it be there (and all in one piece) when you get back? How is the fishing in this area? From the satellite shot looks like it might have some fishy area. Certainly enough creeks to keep one busy for the occasional daytrip down from G’ville. I also thought somebody told me about an oyster farm back in there. How about the small sound/marshy looking are at the end of Mosquito Beach Rd (to the south side of Sol Legare Rd), does it hold any real water?

All around there is pretty decent fishing. Not too sure about parking/ putting in at Bowens, but I did see some yakers putting in there earlier today. Maybe give them a call before you head down

McFDoom, do you have number or at least a name of whatever business is down at the end of Bowen Island Rd

T2B1, thanks for the heads up, love the trunk monkey videos, one of those would be handy just about anywhere these days just in case

You can no longer put in at the oyster farm. I was run off there last year. Bowen’s Island will let you put in, I have never been asked for cash there.

Also, Crosby/Coastal expeditions will let you put in for $5.

There is always the boat ramp on Folly Beach as well (free), which is less than a mile from the area you want to fish. Wish is a great area btw.

So where is the oyster farm? Let me assure you I am not asking for purposes of any illegal raids or colleting, just never saw an oyster “farm”, curious what one does to farm oyster and what an oyster farm looks like. Not to mention, I’m thinking an oyster farm would have to hold some fish in the area.

Also any suggestions/input as far as Stono Inlet side or Lighthouse Inlet side of Hwy 171 as far a better fishing areas

Bowen’s Island- Historically there was nothing at the end of the island but the restaurant, a field to park in, and an oyster shell ramp. If owner around he’d ask for $2. As of 2010, restaurant rebuild (after kitchen fire) ongoing and two new small business operations- Island ecotours and Coastal Expeditions Kayak touring. I went down there this morning; generally just less parking. From Bowen’s ramp can fish the restaurant pilings for puppy drum, same with sunken wooden boat across the way. I used to fish the grass line and bars upstream and downstream to King’s Flats for trout in past 3 years but that species may be down his summer.

King’s Flats/Mosquito Beach Great yaking, fair fishing(actually I haven’t spent much time finding hotspots other than bars for trout) There’s actually a small ramp at Mosquito Beach but I have reservations about leaving my truck there based on rumors from others. I’ll yak around all the oyster bars down to Green Creek and Stono River. Hardly see any other boats, great wildlife. The area around the 3 Cole Islands between Folly Creek, Folly River and Stono is beautiful- just a long paddle from any access.

CLAM Farm- It’s at the 171 bridge on Folly Creek across from Crosby’s Seafood. Since it’s part of the new residential development you see on Folly and Bowen’s Island the access has been severely limited and the structure itself in disrepair. In past, held lots of reds, and I’ve caught smaller flounder and some keeper trout there. You can launch at Crosby’s and fish the bridge and clam farm.

Folly River- lots of creeks and docks for reds, flounder, trout, ladyfish.

Lighthouse Inlet/Stono Inlet[/b]-a 3+ to 5 mile paddle each way. Flats at east end of Folly (couple miles) hold reds but no public access so gotta paddle from ramp at bridge. If wind blowing from the NE it’s wet and work. There’s also a small ramp at Sunset Cay Marina on Folly River (toward Stono end) but I’ve never ried to use it.

PM me

stickman, thanks for the info. I will PM you once I learn the names of some of the creeks in the area. I’m real interested in water flow directions during incoming and outgoing tides in some of these creeks so I am not fighting it when I leave the ramp only to fight it again (when the tide turns) coming back.
