bowfishing

got my wife a 25# kids bow to play with and i found myself quite amused with it too and got the idea of bowfishing after cutting out a cardboard flounder and shooting it on the ground. anyone ever try it while wading or off the beach? if so would a 40-50lb draw weight recurve be good enough? also if i were to decide to take it up how far of a shot is typical? any tips appreciated.

I have done it. It is a PIA to do if you are not in a boat. It can be done, but you just have a lot more “stuff” to deal with. 40-50 lb is fine. Shot distance is not far…like 30 inches from your feet. (give or take a foot or two.

less is more - my bow is down to 35 lbs… the less you have to pull the more you can shoot it. Most of the time you dont even draw it back all the way. If you shot a 45 lb bow at full draw 4 feet from a flounder in the mud that arrow would go all the way through and hide the mud.
