I’m going to use some Power Pro 65 or 80# spooled on a Fin-Nor 8500 attached to a Penn Torque 65 to 100# spinning rod.
Can someone tell me what # and length mono shock leader I need to be using…should I be using some flurocarbon instead. What’s the rule of thumb on what weight leader to a certain weight line…?
Any knot favorites to attach the braid to the mono…Uni knot maybe…?
It’ll be used mostly for jigging butterfly jigs ( 5 to 8 oz. ) over structure like rocks - wrecks and reefs… Also be used with cut bait for bottom fishing…
double knot, bimini twist or something similar, then get an 80 or 100 lb wind on leader and attach via loop to loop knot.
or you could just Bimini to albright knot anywhere from 80lb but I would not go any higher than 125.
you dont have to have fluorocarbon, but some may argue it is better, whatever you may preper or want to spend on leader. make your leader long (25-40ft) and you can shorten it as needed.
I use the same test Floro as the main line tied on with and Albright. With those higher tests its not necessary to double the line IMO, just make sure that you properly tie and seat the knot(s).

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

2’ spider hitch, to a albright knot. 80 lb mono is all you need 15’ long. connect to the jig with a large crimped loop similar to a Zara spook trout setup. a drop of super glue on the albright is a good insurance policy.Make sure the tag ends are trimmed at an angle, so that they shoot through the guides easy. I have not had this come apart even under the pressure of large sharks and AJ’s
