I wanted to start fishing offshore in my kayak. I am mostly targeting; King and Spanish makerel. I use Power Pro on my inshore rods. What do you guys suggest for offshore trolling. I have looked at Power Pro, Fins and Dyneema.

It should work fine, should result in better, stronger hookups plus the capacity if you get a smoker, however, all you need for kings is 20lb. mono, it definitely depends on the size reels your using, and if your going to be casting spoons to spanish braid is always better. If I were you I would probably fill 5/8-3/4 of the spool with mono and a topshot of braid since you probably wont get down to the mono all that much. Hopes this helps, tight lines!
I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.
I am fishing out of a kayak, so I figured I could go with heavier line like 30-50 lb. and a 45lb wire leader. Is that overkill? I just can’t cover as much ground as a boat. I’d hate to have a break off with 20lb.

30lb.+ mono is overkill in my opinion, however 50lb. braid would be ideal, what size reels were you planning to use?

I was looking at the Avet SX and MX. A friend suggested them. They look awesome and are made in the USA.

Avet makes a good reel. I’d look at the MX and fill it with 25 lb mono or 30 lb braid. The drag is somewhat limited on the entry level Avet reels so the 30 lb line should be sufficient. 50 lb is not much larger in diameter and would definitely work as well. Remember that in a kayak you’re more easily pulled around which could help to take the stress off the line as opposed to sitting stationary in a boat letting the drag on the reel do all of the work.
Avet makes very good reels, lightweight, simple, all metal body and an amazing drag. If I were you I would get an avet and spool it with 40-65lb. braid and you’ll be unstoppable! I hope this helped with your original question.

Yep, I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. They are reasonably priced and well built. Good point, letting fish tow me is like added drag. “Who’s ready for a sleigh ride” as Too Busy says.

Well it looks like I am on the right track. Thanks guys.

Got several of them and in my opinion NONE BETTER. Do have some TLD 15’s as well
As for the braided line I had it on my Avets but changed to all 20 lb mono since all I use them for is kings and trolling for stripers in summer on big water of Hartwell.
The mono does just fine but I did notice will pulled lot of hooks when I had the braid on since no stretch even though I set drags very loose but keep in mind when I am king fishing I have Bro in law and nephews with me and not really experienced fishermen (but getting them there) and sometimes they try and get them to the boat to fast
Works GREAT when you hook up with a nice blacktip behind the shrimp boats too
Sea Pro 210cc
Yamaha 200 4 Stroke
Dodge 1500 4x4 HEMI
That what I was thinking with the 50#. A little heavy for Kings but I am covered if something bigger tries to cut me off. I can always use a top shot or fluorocarbon leader.

I spooled with braid with 100 yd topshot of mono on my avet’s

Good luck breaking off if you get hung with any braid above 35 lbs. I got hung on something on the bottom with 35 lb braid and almost broke my fishing pole trying to break it free. That would be almost impossible in a kayak. I don’t spool my reels with anything heavier than 20 lb braid since I spend about half of my fishing time on a kayak.
Tell somebody where you’re going off you’re going offshore in a kayak. Be careful. It’s not as easy as some make it sound.

I’ll be using the Hobie Adventure Island. It’s nothing to paddle the Ride 10+ miles in the creeks.
