BRAINSTORM 3.5.09

got to fish with an awesome crew on a great ocean today… my DAD, sarah, midgie, chilton, and jimmy headed out with frost on the windshield. ran to the north and had nonstop trolling action all morning. we captured 2 blackfins, 2 maui wowies, 1 wahoo, 18 bonita, 3 donkeys(including the largest i’ve ever battled), tons of sharks, 1 snowy grouper, 1 tile fish, plus the usual bottom dwellers. had a mako sky on a cigar minnow right next to the boat. unfortunately he didn’t stick around. caught the topside fish mostly on nakeds and jimmies. hopefully their friends will not be far behind, as the water warmed to over 70 degrees later in the day. it was great to be on the water with great friends and my DAD, who was just in the hospital earlier this week. i guess the passion for the ocean is genetic.

saw a greensticker out there as well. he did okay on the wahoo, but only had 2 guppie blackfins last time we talked. the bonitas were crushing him as well. get out there and enjoy it this weekend if the weather allows. it was slick as a pond. the bottom fish bite never really turned on. we will all forget about bottom fishing soon enough anyways. thanks to the guys for being so great to my DAD. he is all smiles after finishing a dinner of wahoo sashimi and seared tuna.

Wishin I Was Fishin

Glad you got to enjoy some quality time with your Dad, sounds like you couldn’t have picked a better day to be on the Big Pond. We are getting closer and closer to April & May. I 've been saving Kitchen Passes and money waiting for the water to heat up a few degrees. If there are Greenstickers out there meybe we will see some Yellowfin this year, or they are as optometrist as the rest of us.

Don’t be too jealous. The bonita were fun, but we’re not going to eat them or anything.

Phin, I think that he means for all of us who actually know how to catch a fish on the troll

Just kidding. Good going on your day D-money. Just for the record, that is a meatfish slam and a trash can slam all in the same day. There is probably a name for that, but it escapes me at the moment…
