BRAINSTORM 5/31

Fished the 250s to the 350s. 350 to 1200’. 10 folks on board including DAD. Things started off right for us with two mauis in the boat before we had all of our baits in the water. they apparently were alone. worked some longline gear out in the deep and caught a maui and a small wahoo which was sent to freedom with a transom release. found a huge weed pad and nada. went back by it and saw 6 mauis under it. tried to catch them with chunks and only one would eat. bad sign there. marked lots of bait but not much action. ended up with 7 mauis. tried to add more for a while by deploying approximately 120 baits at one time just to see what could be done… 9 lines, 2 dredges, 2 squid chains, 3 bowling pins, and two kite baits. perhaps the fish were intimidated by the numbers… Also scored a nice false blackfin. lots of good billfish captures out there… we tried hard all day for one but i guess we need to go back to school.

on another note, the cajun commander was in full form. lots of good information coming from him. he even acquired a nice new poly ball at the dock. good to see that cajun side hasn’t gotten worked out with all of his time in MP and WA. also, i guess we had the unlucky member of the captain america lucas family aboard today. little bro apparently released 2 blues and a white and dad captured a blue a sail. he is available for trade if this continues…

Looks like you ended up with a good day under the slow conditions. I’m sorry I had to go so quick when you called, we had a fish right at the boat. I tried to get back in touch a little later but couldn’t raise you on the radio.
