Spent the 4th with my DAD, brother, sis in law, 2 nephews, matt, tips, and yano looking for the sail fish. Slow fishing in the 400s, had 2 a double header mystery attack of chocolate fish which we missed both early. heard the red hot fishing with the game day and perserverance and ran to the north. guess they caught them all b/c it was over when we got there. found a reed line (yes reed not weed) and caught some mauis. then we had a sail pile on the flat line and matt found the nest of a bird. finally tips was able to stick one long enough for my 9yo nephew harrison to get it on the leader. he made my day when we were deciding who wanted the rod… he was up top w/ me and starting screaming “me, me, me, me!” and elbowed his mom out of the way after he jumped down from the bridge. we sent him for a swim at the dock and he was walking on the moon. made for a great day with the family. had 2 more come up just after that one but we couldn’t get a bite out of them. my nephew josh did great as well. final tally was harrison 3 mauis 1 sail, josh 3 mauis, and yano caught his first maui as well.
Hey Daniel, We saw you testing a new teaser tube outside the no wake zone Friday. It looked like you were having trouble keeping the livies attached. Did you get to try it in the deep?
“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.”
~ Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
i hope you got as good a laugh out of that as we did. that tube is dangerous and kept damaging our baits. it appears that it swims well but it is all a mirage. i think our tally was 6/6, with 1 blown ear drum, 3 tweaked backs, 2 skint legs, and 1 washed out neck. we will have to leave that to the pros. or at least the six year olds.
Harrison did an awesome job on the sail, I wish we could have kept the hook glued to a few more for lano and josh. Getting ready for this week, maybe we’ll get lucky at the right time. Half the time, all the time…
