Ran all over the ocean yesterday looking for fish. Started on the 140 and ended the day on the 400. Fished from 250’ to 450’ and ran out to 900’ at one point. Found one pocket of good water and caught some fish. My nephew Donen was able to capture his first sailfish and his first wahoo. Ended up losing 3 rigs to wahoos, gaffing 3, and catching 2. Oh well. Found a covey of sailfish. They were voracious. Awesome bites. I think they may have scared the crew with their voracity. Got 5 bites out of the covey, hooked 2, jumped one off and caught one. Donen did a great job on the rod. Caught 7 mauis as well.
They also fished the boat twice last week without me. Caught 1/1 and 1/2 sailfish. Also caught a bunch of maui wowies, a wahoo, and 2 blackfins. Fishing is great for August.
