I need to replace my rotors on my trailer.
I think I know the answer to this, but I feel I need to ask anyway. I’m seeing all sorts of materials for the rotors. There are stainless for over $300 a piece to run of the mills for like $40.
I’m thinking that stainless is the way to go as far as longevity and standing up to being soaked in salt water. But is it really worth all that money, or will something like a coated cast iron do the trick?
Thanks in advance.

Before I sold my 22’er I was about to buy the Kodiak brand Dacromet brakes. The SS ones were just too expensive and the Dacromet seemed to have good salt spray test results, especially since I rinse them well after each trip.

Thanks Loosewire. I do appreciate it. I was looking for someone to confirm that the Dacromets would work. So long as a good cleaning after the fact keeps them clean.

If you’re in saltwater and what you have can rust, it will. Rinsing will only slow the process to some extent. I’ve had SS rotors for 5 years, and they’re still shiny and corrosion free. One draw back, SS is much tougher to turn, although most trailers will never see the need …
Thanks Reelly Old. I’ve seen that on some parts of my boat over the short few years I’ve owned it. I guess the choice is to buy $600 dollars on one set of rotors, or spend $600 over about 6 or 7 different sets over the years … choices, choices.

I priced a set of Kodiak Dacromet and actuator on etrailer.com for less than $450 including shipping. After going through a set of Tie Down pads every year for 4 years and turning rotors twice, I swore off any more Tie Down brakes.

How big is the boat? how far do you trailer? What do you tow with? I know several people who tow limited distance with a 2500hd and gut the brakes.
I live in Summerville. I routinely tow to Remleys or Shem. I’ve started taking my family to Lake Moultrie. However, we are talking maybe 3 to 4 times a month … AT THE MOST. With my schedule it’s hard to find time. So, we are not avid users of the boat compare to some.
The boat is a 22 foot Sea Pro CC, deep V. I tow with our Sequoia.
I don’t want to get rid of the brakes. Not at all.

I guess the choice is to buy $600 dollars on one set of rotors,
I put a premium on not having to do it 6 or 7 times, but that’s just me …
what is the brand of the stainless rotors youve found?
197 poineer F150
31 yellowfin twin 275
I have a 22 sea Hunt and after 2 sets of brakes gutted it all.My Sequoia did fine and now the New truck is even better.
