Brand new to the area

Hey gang
I’m a newbie to the area. Any decent accessible “walk in” spots? I sold my yak and small boat a couple of years ago, so I’m stuck acting like a shore bird.

It’d be nice to find a place where I can get on some reds or trout

few and far between…the number of wadable (ie hard bottom) flats in the Charleston area is limited to begin with and even fewer would be in places you could walk to. In fact, I can’t think of one you could get to without using a boat or kayak first. If there are some they are the world’s best kept secret otherwise everyone would know and they would be fished heavily.

That’s what I was afraid of. I guess it’s time to build another yak.

On a 6.0 or higher you can wade the flats behind plumb island by the JZI connector or on the other side next to the Charleston Country Club. Just park along Harborview Rd and walk across the street. Not the most asthetically pleasing flats but they are wadable and I have hooked a fish back there plus seen two or three others. I’ve only done it twice however so I’m sure there are times when more fish are around. A 6.3 or 6.4 is ideal. The spot where I hooked a fish on the fly was on the flat on the left side of Harborview just before Mimi’s restaurant. Good luck.

It looks like there are some pretty large flats on Lemon Island between Beaufort and Charleston, has anyone ever tried them or had much luck there?

Also understand the Warsaw flats in Beaufort are pretty popular and some good redfish fishing. Was told you can wade from shore, but not sure of exact location.

What is chiefly needed is skill rather than machinery.

Too Busy,

I’m new to salt water fly fishing and also don’t have a boat…yet. Anyway, if you’re looking for someone to try walking into a few flats with you, I’m game. At the very least I could use the practice casting. austincl55@gmail.com (not sure if my contact info one this site is accurate.

Tried those good looking flats next to 170 by boat and they never yielded a fish. A lot of them are way up creeks pretty far from the river. I always thought they looked juicy too.
