Lost a through hull fitting 30 miles out Saturday morning. Hell of a time for bilge pump to decide it wanted to stop working! so we started with hand pump not fun. Back on trailer at 830 . Plastic lasted since 1996 but would prefer brass or bronze. Boat sits on trailer.
bronze- and get a second bilge pump. Any boat going offshore should have at least 2 bilge pumps. You can have a second one installed and wired directly to the battery with a float switch for around $200. Redundancy is KING with safety.
I don’t think anyone even makes a brass one. Bronze is the the way to go. Brass is for bells and buckles, not through hull fittings.

I said it before carry a nerf football,it is a great plug for thru hull or even a hull breach…and on those slow fishing days you can have fun with it.

True bronze is 88% copper, 12% tin.
Brass has anywhere from 30-40% zinc! And beware of DZR too as it also has zinc, just not as much.
thanks guys. Have new bronze in her know. Replaced the other one that wasn’t broke also. It broke the fitting under trim tab .Tabs are inset on my Grady. New bilge pump and got trash out old one and it pumps like a champ now. LEARNED BIG LESSON ON BEING PREPAIRED.
