I have a couple of spots that I fish for sheepshead off the bank. But they all have a ton of rocky snags on the bottom. A rod&reel doesn’t really work to well at these locations either. I needed a way to feel the bites and pull straight up on the hooksets. If I was in a boat a rod and reel would work. But then again these aren’t exactly good locations for boats either. I have a 16ft medium action Bream pole that I usually string up with either 20 lb mono or 30 lb braid. An egg sinker with swivle. Your basic Carolina rig. The weight varies with current. I can reach out and drop my bait right down in that hole just off the rocky ledge. My bait has always been fresh fiddlers caught by me. I have caught a lot of sheeps doing this. The tip on the bream pole is very sensitive and it helps to catch them. The only problem I had was the one time a huge Blackdrum hit! I didn’t catch him but it was quite a battle. Just my way of stepping out of the box with a different tactic.

try using a drop shot rig. ive watched an asian gentleman absolutely crush the sheeps with a bream buster and this type of setup.
when I fish off of the rocks for sheephead, that is all I use. last summer I was fishing and this korean gentleman showed me how to use a bream buster to catch sheephead. that is the best way to catch anything off of the rocks.
old school is a counterweighted calcutta cane(not the bamboo they sell). there is nothing as sensitive and strong in my experience. downside is wind resistance and finding the cane.
I guess there is nothing wrong with going back to basics. We pretty much all started out with a cane pole as kids. I have an uncle that used a hand line from his boat back in the day. He would have a glove on the hand that held the line. He used this to catch sheeps also. But a huge red ended the use of a hand line for him LOL! And no he didn’t lose his hand LOL!
