My daughter has recently turned 3 and I’d like to start taking her fishing soon. Since I’m sure she doesn’t have the attention span necessary for bigger game fish just yet, I want to start her off with the basics. Cane pole, bobber, crickets, and relentless bream
I haven’t targeted bream in decades, so I’m not really sure where to take her. I know asking for a fishing spot on the forum is a big faux pas… I live in Goose Creek - is there a decent bream population in the reservoir? Or would I be better off in Bushy Park or further upriver towards Cypress Gardens?
I don’t fish for bream very much but from what I can tell right now with cold water temperatures they are a little bit tricky to catch, but I did see some people catching them at lake Murray the other day on what looked like worms on the bottom. Usually in the warmer months it seems you can cast a worm along the bank or structure anywhere and catch them. If you look on the scdnr fishing reports page for santee cooper it says “Bream are pretty lethargic in the cold water.” I’d imagine it’s like that around goose creek too.
If you are a resident in the City of Goose Creek, take her to the lake behind City Hall, off of Hwy 52, they stock the lake. i’ve seen some nice fish come out of there.
Thanks for the tips guys. I wasn’t sure if it was the right time of year for the bream. The last thing I want is for it to be boring
