"Brewmaster"

Props to the skipper of the “Brewmaster” for answering the distress call yesterday of a sinking vessel near the 226 Hole. We were running and too far away to render assistance but listened to the communications between the Coast Guard and the “Brewmaster”. Skipper stayed calm, picked up the stricken vessels crew unharmed. Good to know those around you will answer the call when needed. If you know this skipper, next time you see him shake his and tell him thanks!

Any news on how the boat sunk?

I had heard the same general news as y’all and was curious of the details. Glad everyone is safe, that’s the most important thing.

Ouch…Glacier Bay?

That sucks…glad all are ok

SAFMC you suck!

Who got the picture. Are there any more

Glad all are safe. My nephew knows the captain of the Brewmaster and told me about this. I spoke with him briefly and didn’t get any details other than he picked all up unharmed. The info I got was 9 aboard the boat that went down. All picked up OK.

I have heard all kind of rumors about what happened on Tuesday so I figured it was time to let everyone know. It is also a great to learn from other situations in case you get in one.
The first 20 miles was a great ride and then we hit the washing machine. For the next 20-25 miles it was slow going. Took a couple hard licks for sure. We pulled up in 300 feet of water and started dropping lines. As soon as we got two out we heard the distress call over the radio. They said there was a boat right next to them. I looked everywhere and couldn’t see a boat. So the first thing that crossed my mind was that boat was going to get them. About 30 seconds later they made another distress call. I could tell they were close by and figured it was time to pull up the lines. We could see a boat running further out so we decided that could be the boat they were looking at. Luckily we were correct. They still had the boat on plane and saw us coming. When we got there the boat was already tilting. Within two minutes it was under water.
The crew we picked up were experinced fisherman. The captian had been fishing for over 30 years out there. He had all of his safety gear ready and was about to set off the EPIRB until he saw us. I couldn’t have asked to pick up a better bunch of guys out of the ocean. They fished with us the rest of the day. Even found their cooler later and caught 3 dolphin off it.
Biggest lesson to learn is you don’t have a bunch of time to react in these situations. I think for the crew that was sinking they handled it as good as you could have asked. If you are sinking you are going to panic. Also you can never have enough safety gear. I learned that I need to get a few more smoke sticks for my boat. They set off three flares and we never saw the first one. We were looking right in their direction when they set off one. Just glad I could be in the right place at the right time.

Job well done Brewmaster. I always tell people to keep a radio on 16 just in case they get that call. It is our responsibility to be there for other vessels because one day we may need them.

any news what cause the boat to sink

Great job Brewmaster! Good to know help is there and we watch out for each other. And to top it off you took a couple mahi from under their swamped cooler… unreal!!!

Glad to hear everyone is okay. Maybe I misread, but I didn’t quite gather from the story whether another boat was truly there or if the boat that you started heading towards was also the boat that was sinking. Either way, it sounds like it was rough enough for the waves to obscure visibility somewhat, and good on ya for having the radio on and responding quickly.

If it’s a GB, I’ve heard those cheap inspection ports they use have caused a boat or 3 to turtle.

And (**()…boat sinks and the crew still goes fishing! Glad everything turned out OK.

I want to be clear about starting this post in the first place. Tuesday I hailed Brewmaster on the radio and thanked him for rescuing the crew of the sinking vessel. My intention here was to do the same. If the skipper of Brewmaster was stressed and/or panicked during the rescue you would have never know it by the sound of his voice on his radio transmissions. Job well done skipper and many thanks. None of us, no matter our experience level or quality of boat, are immune from this type of event. Glad to know we are looking out for each other. Be safe out there. ><)))’>

Great job Ronnie and also thanks for posting. Like someone else mentioned I think it helps me to read the details when this happens in hopes it will help me prevent this from happening to me or at least be better prepared if it does. Thanks again captain, well done.

Trying to figure out what boat that is/was…not a GB as I originally thought as far as I can tell. Anybody?

Good on you captain!
