Broke 100# Fluor

Bottom fishing reef at 50 feet deep. hooked up and fought. Never got it close to the boat. Whatever it was broke 100# fluorocarbon leader. im thinking sea monsters or a small Volkswagen. What do you think?

What size reel is that?

I doubt you were able to exert any where near 100#'s of drag with it?

Maybe a medium/large Shark? Their abrasive skin is always a factor, especially, on a long fight.

A, nice, Grouper could’ve holed you up, and cut you off on the structure?

Knot failure is always in the mix too.

Like they say “nothing makes 'em bigger, than not being caught”!

LOL…

Right! My spinfisher only has max drag@40# but I wasn’t maxed. did I forget to mention it swam around the boat three times before going south with about a hundred yards of line. The leader was worn out like I put it on the belt sander. Ha.

My best guess is a Shark!

That’s the thrill of bottom fishing in Salt Water. You never know what you may hook! Like mixed nutz said probably a shark. Specially after you saying your leader was “sanded”. Lord knows we have some big ones off our coast!!
