Broken Rods -what to do with them?

I’ve always been hell on a fishing rod but is it just me or do rods seem to be made weaker and weaker???

I’m tiding up the fishing corner of the garage today and realized I have quite a collection of broken and cracked rods.

Of course I retip when feasible and return if I have a receipt but these don’t fit either catagorey.

Before I chunk them in the trash,
does anybody have any clever ways to repair or any ideas for a good use I may be overlooking?

What is broken? Eyes, the rod itself? Are they worth repairing, expensive?

No the blank

They’re good to use as tomato stakes. Vines grow well on them.

The expensive rods always seem to break easier. They have more sensitivity but they can’t hold up to abuse very well. My ugly sticks are’t real sensitive but the rod blanks are tough as all get out.

One of the reasons I tend to fish for stuff that hits hard, or stuff you don’t need to “feel” the strike on (like trout jigs that you automatically set the hook on since you’re jerking them anyhow). Just cheaper fishing lol.

I have two ugly sticks, both 7’. One is about 13 years old, the other is brand new. Just plain tough.

Put an eye on the broken end and use them for sabiki rigs!

What kind of rods are they and how did you break them/it? You may be able to send them back to the manufacturer and get replacements for little or no charge other than shipping. The expensive rods break more easily because to get them lighter and more sensitive, they must sacrifice duribility by using thin walled graphite or carbon fiber in the blank construction. Rods like an ugly stick are constructed with graphite and fiberglass making them very durable, heavy, and kind of sensitive. Other rods such as many striper fishing rods, including a series by ugly stick, are made completely with glass. These rods have very specific applications for which they are used. For example: When Herring fishing for stripers, light action rods are needed to keep the fish from feeling resistance when he strikes. The glass rods will bend almost in a complete circle, allowing a fisherman to put lots of pressure on big fish with a light action rod and not break the rod. Quantum makes a all glass top water rod. The idea being that the parabolic bending of the glass rod is better for hook up ratios. You would not use these rods to bounce a jig or plastic shrimp along the bottom. You would want a more sensitive graphite rod to distinguish a bite from an oyster. The reason the uglystick is such a popular rod is because they have a good balance of enough graphite to be pretty sensitive and enough glass to be as tough as a box of nails.

I must have got a hold of a defect. My 7ft. medium action Ugly Stick bait casting rod snapped about 10" from the tip, right below the fourth eyelet. It’s less than 3 months old. I had a pull down from a striper, and when I grabbed the rod, it snapped. Needless to say, I lost the fish.
I take good care of my rods, both storing and transporting them.
I’m going to contact Shakespeare and see if they will replace it.

I’ve broke a few over the years. Usually sit in the corner of the garage until I try to repair them or end up throwing out. Haddrell’s will replace rod tips, etc.

I lose the ceramic eyes out of mine…I try to be careful but they seem to fall out after a while.

ok…

no…"thats why you cant “see” the fish jokes
