Drove out to 17 fathoms in reasonable sea conditions.
Trolled around Y-73 for a couple of hours using skirted ballyhoo.
Had a total of eight strikes and managed to land a nice King-about 15 pounds-and a small 'cuda-which was released with prejudice. Several short strikes, one fish broke off, another king took a ballyhoo while we were slowed to two knots re-baiting-could not get the slack out of the line, a large King bite right through 100 pd mono leader, a fish of some sort “mouthed” a bait and spit it out.
Lots of action!
Homemade bamboo out-riggers performed extremely well.
Sea conditions started making up so we headed home around 1PM.
Best we could manage in my tiny boat was 15-17kts, approaches to jetties were “difficult” for us but my capable mate took us thru with flying colors; and the “Brooke II” did just fine in rough and confused seas.
Fished the Wando for a while, no luck there.
7AM to 7PM, a long but good day.
