It,s 15, for now, The SAMFC will make a decision in about a month weather or not to reduce the limit to 5.

If any of you get that SAFMC Newsletter, they have an article on it. It basically says that the change from 15 to 5 won’t make a big difference since most anglers only land 2 any way. Bullschitt is what the whole article is.

I got that same newsletter. It was an article regarding headboats and they stated that the average BSB per angler on headboats is 2-3 per person per trip. I can certainly understand it on headboats with Ms. Smith and Mr. Jones puking their guts out and half of everyone else tangled up because they are fishing lines right on top of each other.
Is this the NMFS “science” they used to close down the fishery? What a bogus article.
To understand the health of the BSB fishery, they should fish with one of us sometime. You should have seen the HUGE BSB we killed this weekend. I guarantee you it wasn’t 2-3 per person. 
We threw back 12-14" fish faster than flies land on poop!

sshaarda, we did the same last weekend. 14in was a bare minimum and most of them were tossed back. I bet we caught 300+ fish between 4 of us. Its BS science for sure.

Govt Fisheries ‘experts’ evidently have not got a clue about fishing.
Fisheries Council catch limits are purely a dartboard exercise. Why set it at 5 if most people only catch 2-3??

Our last spot we dropped on, I kept pulling up gags on a Williamson Chartruese Benthos jig, all of them were 18 to 20 inches. If it wasn’t a grouper it was a 16 to 18" BSB.

Saltydog, glad to hear that those williamson jigs work. I have a couple of them but haven’t used them yet because my shimano work so well. Will give them a shot next time.
Were they the heavy ones? One assist hook or two?

I think it was the medium size, maybe 5 or 7 oz. I switched to the 9oz later to try and go with the bigger bait bigger fish but no dice. I use a double hook on the split ring but get rid of the ones they send with the jigs. I was using Owner in a 7/0 I think. I’ve had those Williamson hooks straighten on bigger AJ’s so I switched them all.

Yes, dump the hooks that come with the williamson’s. They will break in half, etc.
Make your own stingers with 4x strong hooks snelled onto a doubled piece of heavy braid, use cable and crimps, or use the premade owner stingers. They hold up very well.
You can also put a wide gap circle or gorilla owner or jobu type 4x or 8x strong hook on the bottom of the jig with a heavy split ring. Most any type jig will work if it is heavy enough to stay vertical and the fish are hungry. Shimano and Daiwa stuff doesn’t bend as easily as some other brands I’ve found, but as far as what the fish like it isn’t much difference. The roscoe jigs are also pretty tough and sink like bullets.
