btb Saturday anyone?

Headed offshore from the beach saturday morning and thought I’d see if anyone wanted to go since there are a few folks that bring it up on occasion. I plan to launch from Joplin and troll for a bit then drift back to where I started. Hit me up if anyone is interested.

How far do you plan on going out?

Fish tremble at the sound of my name.

I didn’t plan on more than a mile or mile and a half at the most. Just hoping the green water is in close like last week and then i planned to drag some live bait parallel to the beach and drifting back down looking for birds working bait. And then, I’m fishing the surf all evening til who knows when. Weather is supposed to be sunny and light wind with 1ft surf and swells less than that.

Where is Joplin?

Stupid auto correct. It’s suppose to be IOP (Isle of Palms). But, to answer your question, Joplin is in Missouri. At least that’s the only Joplin that I know of. Saturday might be out though. I’ve been watching the weather and it’s starting to look like it might get nasty. I’ll know for sure by tomorrow evening. Either way I’m headed out somewhere on Saturday.

Alright, the weather is looking decent. Calling for possible rain late morning for a couple of hours then clearing out. I’m going to be launching from 42nd ave on IOP first thing in the morning if anyone wants to join me. Surf is supposed to be small. It would be a good day for the guys that are unsure of how to fish btb but want to do it. Pm me and I can give a call to anyone that might want to join. I will have live bait and plan to launch around 0700-0730 in the morning.

How did you end up doing?

Didn’t get out til early evening due to technical difficulties. Surf was small but past the breakers was nasty with 2-3ft choppy swells with the occasional rogues higher than that. Current was a bit stiff also. I trolled large live finger mullet for about 2 hrs and the only hit i had was from a seagull. Came back in around 1900 and setup for some all night surf fishing. My 12/0 was cut off by a shark about 50 yds from the leader and ended my chances for a big shark shortly after nightfall. The rest of the night was slow. Me and a buddy caught 4 whiting a baby sharpnose nd a ray between the two of us for the entire night. Packed it in around 0800. I will definitely be heading out early some time this week now that i have worked out the bugs with my cart. Early morning had flat seas and bait fish getting slaughtered from above and below but it was just out of casting range and i was too worn out to go back out in the morning.
