I took my son up to Buck Hall Recreation Area this weekend. We camped Friday and Saturday night. We fished for four or five hours on Saturday, and it was tough. I tried a couple of spots that I had scouted on Google maps and got some bites from some smaller fish that would swallow my paddler lures all the way to the hook then spit it out before I could sling one in the boat. If I had thought about it I would have thrown a smaller lure and hook to catch some for bait.
I trolled up to one of my google-scouted spots that looked even more fishy in person. I hooked up with a small trout that came off the hook at the boat. That was the first good bite of the day, so I anchored us up. I got my son’s minnows in the water and started throwing a paddler on a jighead at the bank. I hooked up with a nice trout.
A boat that was passing by saw me catch that trout and immediately came over and anchored up right in front of us. My son then caught a trout on his rod. It was a really fat trout, and he was almost as proud as I was! This time two more boats saw him catch that fish and also anchored up in front of us. I told my son we would move on. So we went for a couple boat rides and I stopped and beat the bank before we headed back to camp.
Buck Hall is a really beautiful place. We really enjoyed our stay there, and we could not have asked for better weather. There was lots of room for my son to run around, and the camping area was pretty quiet. We will be back there soon.
