Has anybody ever done any tent camping at buck hall? Thinking about going sometime. If you take a boat is it safe to leave your campsite to go fish or do you need to pack everything up before you go?
I camped there several years ago. At the time they had some “resident” campers that were employed to keep an eye on the place. We felt safe there and it seemed secure enough to trust your stuff while you were gone (esp. during the day). In the evening/night there was a group hanging out in the picnic area with the smell of pot drifting from their spot. They made an anti-caucasian remark to us as we walked by and we avoided them. We reported it to the caretaker campers and I think the group left before there was any other issue.
Seemed like a safe place but that was probably 10+ years ago.
Great place to tent camp, been going there for 20 years. Highly recommend it.

Yes I would recomend it. Been there a number if times.
Camp there all the time. Great place to relax.
All fishermen are liars except for you and me, and to tell you the truth brother, I’m not sure about you!
I stay at the Mt Pleasant KOA when I come down. $70/night this includes tax and member discount…cabin w/ bunk beds, double bed, HVAC, ceiling fan, power, and outside water to wash boat. They have better cabins that are more expensive with bathrooms and kitchen…hope this helps save some money for some CF.com folks!
I’ve never had a problem at BH and go several times a year. Lots of stickers in the field between the tents and boat ramp. You can buy an annual parking pass for $25 from the Ranger station off Steed Creek Rd past Halfway Creek.
I’ve got one of the tent sites reserved for a Friday night but was unable to get a Saturday night spot. I had to reserve with some federal guy who knew nothing about the site, but said that there was “overflow camping” available? Does anyone know anything about this or the local number of the guy who actually works there?
Don’t know what the local number is. We camped w/ our Boy Scout Troop and they put us in a group/overflow spot behind the parking field.
I camped in the overflow last weekend with 3 fishing buddies, each with our own boat, and it was better than camping at the regular camp site, imo. We were able to park our vehicles w/trailers directly in front of our tents and had the primo spot tucked away far in the back by ourselves (only saw two other guests staying in overflow also) Fire ring was there too. We kept them up all weekend with no problems while fishing all day. We talked to the resident camper when we arrived (first camper on right) and got permission to camp and that was the day of, no reservations. Used the available facilities while there as well. Only issue we had was there was no fish that weekend from Buck Hall down to Sewee Bay. No bait in the creeks either. Other than that, it was a great stay. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info! Sounds like the overflow area may be the way to go. Hopefully we will have better luck with the bait!
