Can’t have too many!
I’ve been pouring, painting & tying! Have more to do plus a few styles not shown here.
I poured some from 1/8 oz to 2 oz for the lake & the coast. About 200 altogether!

More!
Tied these for Redfish. Not sure how they’re going to work, but looking forward to trying them. 1/2, 3/8 & 1/4 oz. molded on a Mustad 3/0 Ultra Point hook, (which may be a bit big).

Need to add a feather or two (lime green, chartreuse, pink, fluorescent blue) if for stripers.
Thanks Epres!
Raddaddy, side feathers or tails feathers? I’ve tied them in the past with both. Always open to suggestions!
1 or 2 feathers that are at least 1/2 inch longer than the hair and tied against the back of the hook. Fluorescent chartreuse is best for lake Murray and Wateree. I will post pics later as I’m on the road for a family Christmas visit. Caught 50+ today on Murray but most were caught on smaller swimbaits and ice flies. All schoolies. Nothing bigger than 8 pounds. After this cold front, an idiot rig is all you will need for schoolies (bucktail, ice fly combo), but a chartreuse feather bucktail is a staple .
Only bucktail I need…lol…

LOL, I would be slow trolling that for Marlin!
That’s a big shad! No doubt live bait works! I’ll fish live baits sometimes, I release most Stripers anyway, so prefer to catch them on artificial lures or flies. Plus, I fish from a jon boat or Gheenoe, so don’t have the live well for big baits like that.
Something like this Raddaddy? I had tied this awhile back, and may have even posted it here.
Light on the hair(white), 1 yellow feather is the standard.
OK. I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks!
I know guys. I am just messing with yall…I am surprised loon hasn’t chimed in. He ties almost everything he uses. He has the striper colors down to an art. I am sure he has some pics to post.

Well, I hope he does, that would be great. I’ve tied & used many similar bucktails in the Chesapeake, but every place seems to have favorites.
I supplied some round head bucktails to a fellow for several years who sold them to guys fishing Smith Mountain Lake. They were mostly 3/8 or 1/2 oz with white hair & had a feather on each side in yellow, red or green.
BTW, I live near Lake Marion, so expect what I tie & will fish with will be used there.
Thanks folks for the comments & ■■■■■■■■!
Don’t know if there is a convict in Murray that could eat that gizzard. Good lord.
Why I call em Sweetwater Pompano. The pond’s full of that size

love a bucktail… there was store up in Moncks Corner that used to have the white with a bright red feather. Never found them anywhere else. Probably the best one I’ve ever used. Think I caught more spot tail than rockfish with them.
Have double rigged them with a white curly tail grub and caught flounder too.
Bigjim… nice work!

Thanks Fred67! Yes, me too, they’re fun to make & fun to use. I wish I had $10 for every fish I’ve ever caught on one. Might not make me wealthy, but I’d sure be doing fine!

Nice Loon! Thanks for posting the pic! The ones I had made with the side feathers were like that, but not as sparse with the hair.
I like that gray & white, as well as olive & white. Of course chartreuse & white is popular in the Chesapeake & many other places.
What weight & hook size is that?
Do you find that the sparser jigs produce better here, or do you vary the amount of hair? I’m asking because there’s always that debate about the amount of hair. I’ve tied them with various amounts, and can’t say one way is better than another, that it depends on where & how it’s used. They all catch fish. Back in MD, some old timers told me to tie a lot hair on them, while others said that’s too much. No one seems to agree. So, I generally tie mine as I’ve shown in my pics.
Most folks tie flies with the bucktail sparse, but not all, so it’s the same debate. IMO no difference between flies & jigs except not much weight in the flies. I vary it depending on the profile I want. Bigger gets more hair.
I like the sparse amount of pearl flash in your jig too.
Found a few more…
