Has anyone ever heard of Buddy Wright? Heard some folks talking about him the other day, said he was a legend.

Nope. But could it be the guide Buddy Bouknight that you are referring to? He’s a great angler who always seems to put clients on quality fish and is well-respected by the Lake Murray striper fishing community.

Hard to believe Murray ever produced a 15 fish stringer averaging 20 lbs! And I am not sure the Lake record is still 44 lbs.

The article is nearly 30 years old. The 70’s and 80’s were the golden age of striper fishing on Murray-- shortly before I got into fishing hard for linesides. As striper fishing got more popular on the lake, fishing pressure got more intense. Couple that with a few fish kills over the past 2 decades, it’s no wonder trophies are harder to come by. We still have one outstanding lake in my opinion-- but to think what could have been!
Rick,as for the record, DW Eggleston caught a 46-10. He’s one of the guides who works with Captain Mike in putting together the wounded warriors event we have every summer. I read somewhere that our record is 53 pounds but can’t find who caught it. This has been edited. I thought DW’s fish was the record but double checked and was apparently mistaken.
