Only the dead ones generally, so no. They eat almost everything else though, mostly frog eggs and tadpoles, some organic stuff too, but the fish are safe
The figs are ripening now. It’s going to be an all out war between the birds over the next few weeks.
Fred, let me know.

They just put Dad on Hospice, so a bit sketchy this weekend. Maybe Sat afternoon or sunday mid day? I’ll pm you my number if ya wanna give me a call or drop me a pin. Might have to leave a message, I’m in the White Hall area with poor phone service right now, then headed towards Mashawville (probably the worst phone coverage area around here. Ya want any Blueberry’s if I have some good shoots? A little late in the year to plant but nothing lost. I might have some crype myertals as well. They might look good around your pond?
Man I’m sorry to hear about that. I know that has to be tough.
Handle your business and I’ll be around whenever you have time. No worries. The figs should last for several weeks. And yes, I’d love blueberries! I don’t turn down many plants!

Fred.
There’s nothing anyone can say or do to make these times and easier. But we will keep you in our prayers.
You find things offensive. I find things funny. That's why I'm happier than you.
22 life’s a day
Thanks for the well wishes. Dad had a bad time with Agent Orange. Back in 1981 they said he wouldn’t make it 5 years. Well he showed them up. . Forget how many stints, two open heart surgeries, both carotid arteries cleaned out… then the mini strokes started happening… then last year mom had him uptown and he went completely out with major stroke. She was .10 of a mile from hospital and they gave him the tPA (tissue plasminogen activator), Absolute miracle shot. With in seconds of the shot he came out of it. He still has a good mind, just a body unwilling to do much anymore. This Hospice thing is fantastic. Actually have two doctors that go around making house calls not to mention the nurses. It’s taken a lot of burden off mom. We Boys have just got her to have a sit in watch dad so she can go out with the ladies in her Church group for some shopping, eating and gossip. He’s lived a full life and is ready for his reward. Use kids are just not ready to let go…
He still won’t talk about it but he was awarded a bronze star with a V device and several purple hearts + a lot more achievements during his 26 year military career.
It was bad when we had to talk him into not driving, then no more tractor or backhoe after several bad (but lucky) incidents, and then the kicker was selling off his cows.
To keep the private pond thing… this was him attempting to do something with one pond 1 1/2 years ago… we still aren’t quite sure what he was up to.
I guess its been about 9 months since I stocked the pond. Looking great so far. The cats are up to about 12" in length. They should be fun for the family to start catching by the end of the summer!
And a critter that I need to remove quickly…

looks like otter tracks. He’s gotta go! not usually alone and will clean a pond out in a fast hurry. I pm’d you a guy that helped me with a beaver problem. He’s right there in Smokes works at the William’s mill, if he still does trapping. Very good and respectable Man. Call me if ya have any questions.
That’s actually a small gator track and that straight line is him dragging his tail! I’ve been seeing him off and on for a few weeks now; I’ve got a plan for him soon.
I can assure you I’m no stranger to trapping.

Missed that one by a mile. Nice knife.
That was a gift from my uncle. I don’t know much about knives, but I know he doesn’t buy anything but first class stuff. I told him that it was too nice and I’d never use it. He said, you better use it and send me pictures when you do or else I’m taking it back. So, I sent him this picture a few weeks after he gave it to me.

Very cool Ricky.

Went and tried my luck with some nightcrawlers on Saturday morning and had some. Katie caught one 12" cat and miss three more! The hooks I used were just laying around in the truck so they are on the big side and I’m sure that’s where the problem came in.
I’ve also been told if I really want to catch pond fish, to turn my feeder off a few days before. I’ll have to try that in the future!

If you really want to catch them quick, wait for your timed feeder to go off and throw a cast net. … Yes they will do better if ya hold off the feed for a couple of days from my experience. I just had a hard time convincing my wife that. She didn’t want them to get hungry, thinks that’s mean.
I’ve been working on my new entrance to the property off and on for the last year. This is the new entrance that will take you winding around the pond and back to the house eventually. Now fully automated and running on solar. This wasn’t the easiest to install for me as I did the entire thing myself; it took some tweaking, but finally I understand how and why it works the way it does. I’m very happy with it. If you have an engineering/mechanical mindset, you’ll have no problem with a similar setup. Price was actually very reasonable for what you get.

And a side project that was installed yesterday as well! This is a new lane that I haven’t hunted before, so I’m looking forward to it.

That’s real nice! Something to be proud of for sure:slightly_smiling_face:, the gate is a nice touch. What all do you plan on stocking in there again, cant remember if it’s been posted or not
When you have some time to kill, check out this guy’s pond build. I’ve been watching since the beginning and it’s been very interesting.

…well, some fishing too!
super nice ricky! Who did your gate for you? Looks super.
On your shooting lane, I bet a two nickles you’ll need a good amount of lime to get stuff growing. To know for sure you can pick up some soil sample bags from Clemson ext. super cheap and takes all the guess work out what your soil may or may not need. We have a branch here in walterboro or if you want I can give you a few bags.
You gonna uproot from Charleston and move out this way? I would imagine you could get a Mint for your place in today’s market!
check out the video stump posted… That old boy put some serious money in his pond, neat wildlife footage too. thanks for that one stump.
Catfish and bream right now. Hopefully bass at a later point.
The gate I purchased a while back at one of those big equipment auctions in Kingstree. They are big and heavy and should outlive me!
I added 100lbs of lime to the shooting lane to get started. I’m going to try it this year and see what happens. I’m sending soil samples of my big plots to Clemson. Its not worth it to me to do a test on this small area. I’m not moving anytime soon!
