I have made 8 trips this past few months to the Stono river (Folly) area with very little results. A few trout along with very few Whiting. NO reds at all. Resorted to shark fishing with only two sharks in 4 trips. Both sharks caught behind shrimp boats. Anyone have any recommendations for the Bull Bay area? Seems to be a bit shallow in that area but I love trout and Shark fishing. Any tips for that area would be helpful. Thanks!
Sharks in Bulls Bay = Cut bait on the bottom. Locate a deep area off of a point. If you don’t get any action within 10 - 15 minutes then move to a new location. If you go out into the bay area be careful because it is shallow in many areas. Easy to get stuck in the mud. Go slow and watch your depth. I took a friend out last week and caught 3 sharks. One was a Hammerhead which was sweet. That is what he wanted to fish for.
Still trying to find the trout. Anyone want to help me find them in Bulls Bay. Send me a PM. Good Luck and be safe.

Great! thanks for the tips… I will try it soon and time it at high tide. I will launch at Garris public landing and see what I can find. jcc
Thanks, I will try for a few. Looks like Anderson and venning creeks are a good starting point.
Question for you Epres! Since you are a senior member you may have a good insight on me looking for a local to fish with me and provide me some guidance on location and navigation. I come down alone to the Charleston area often (From Augusta)considering I am retired, but my inexperience in navigation in the area limits me. I would like some guidance on the Bull bay area or the harbor and jetties. DO you think this tactic is safe? I would pay for the gas, food, drink, and bait. Just need a buddie to help me out. Thanks for any ■■■■■■■■ you can give.

Trout are next to oyster lined banks near the mouth of the creeks that feed bulls bay. Just look for clean water and oyster edges
I can’t… I’m saddled with three kids and two of them are 1yr olds. Hopefully someone will see your post. Best bet is just like searching any new area…make a trip at low tide and find your navigable channels. Personally I don’t like fishing that area because it is a maze out there and it is so sparsly frequented. Also you can’t get away from the wind. I only go there in the winter for reds. Shrimping in Oct, or (someday) tarpon fishing. I have a healthy respect for that area because it is vast, all looks the same, and see very few people.
It sure is, but I’d sure hate to try to push it out of the mud when it’s gets stuck.[:0]

Agreed, nice rig, but not one I’d want to use exploring shallow muddy bays. Of course, anything can get stuck in the pfuff mud, but I recommend the first trips to that area be in a shallow draft rig.
I can’t help much. I made the trip a few times and always after very carefully studying charts and aerials and going slow at low and incoming tides with a GPS to my nose.
Caught a few trout/reds but there are closer areas with easier access to me.
I’ve been fishing Bulls Bay for a little over a year now. Finally finding fish. Unfortunately for me it usually takes me that long to locate fish and figure out the area. But it has been an experience. Mostly good but other times teaching me lessons. Life is all about lessons. Looking to locate those trout and then start exploring the Stono.
All the ■■■■■■■■ is great! I most likely will stay clear of Bull bay until I have someone that knows it well with me. As you can see, my boat has a deep draft and WILL get stuck easy. I hate to spend a day or two out there waiting for help. I have a new GPS system and marine radio but still will not go it alone.
I am thinking about making at trip to the harbor jetties tomorrow ‘by myself’. This will my first trip there. I am not sure about how safe this may be. I have not experienced wakes for large ships or were or how to maneuver around the jetty but I feel I can do it as long as I go slow and pay attention. Any words of caution or possibly some tips?

I have fished the Stono all season with some limited results. I will be glad to share the locations I have been successful.

Thanks anyway friend! I understand all about the little ones. My youngest is 29 now but I still remember your challenges. Keep me in mind if you are ever looking for a day on the water.
