Bull Red

Brother-in-law put out a bottom rig with cut mullett just for fun while we were fishing for trout in St. Helena Sound.BAM…thought it was a big ray so he handed the rod to me to get some gloves …turned out it was a big BULL RED…bout 48" in length. Biggest one either of us has landed before. L_I_V_E A_C_T_I_O_N!!!

Nice fish thanks for the report but you really shouldn’t hold those fish like that with the Boga grips!!!

lol… here we go again…

Good job, Fishinmyot. That thing’s a stud.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

I hope he got back in the water quickly. I echo the sentiment about the misuse of the boga stick. Cradle that hog like a baby, give it a kiss, and let it go.

Awesome job on a stud red. But they are right that fish prolly kicked off strong but will die by days end. Avoid taking those brutes out of the water but if you do for a quick pic treat like a baby hold horizontal with support. Again great catch but just know in the future best not to handle the breeders that way.

You are ALL exactly right! That said, the fish was laying on the boat deck, I picked it up for about 3 seconds, Jimmy snapped a pic and very soon thereafter the fish was gently revived in the water and vigorously swam away. It was in the heat of the moment that I picked it up with the boga…really because I couldn’t get a grip on it any other way at the moment. I hope the fish forgives me and has a wonderful life!
