Bull redfish rant

who says there are no poets on here?

Poetry? Nothing rhymes. I guess you’re a fan of Haiku.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

I’ve been scouring the Interwebs and can’t seem to find the requirements for being “qualified” to talk about this topic. As I am a firm believer in “knowledge is power,” could someone, maybe 40inchredsbutalsoover60inchreds, please point me in the right direction to find said qualifications? I love talking about fishing and giving my opinion on related issues but I’m afraid if I can’t provide proof of my qualifications, I may get banned from this site, the water and the entire Interwebs.

Fred, I get what you’re saying. I too have seen “those guys” and I’m positive countless others have seen “those guys” but you can’t paint this issue with such a broad brush. I love taking pictures of my days on the water and in the woods. Only God knows when my last trip to either is scheduled so I want to capture as many of those memories as possible. Me and my fishing buddies are VERY conscious of the fish’s needs when we land one. When we catch a fish we intend to take a picture of, we land the fish in a net. Once landed, we unhook it as quickly as possible and return it to the net and lower the net into the water so the fish is submerged while we get the camera ready. Once ready, the fish is lifted from the net with a boga grip on its lower jaw and a hand under its body to support the weight. We take a couple of pictures and get the fish back in the water as quickly as possible. There, it is held in the water, by the tail, until the fish kicks away on its own. Now I’ve said before that we don’t fish “deep” water much at all. We fish inshore creeks and surrounding areas so “venting” is not an issue but we still make it a point to care for every fish being released as attentively as possible.

Again, I get the “few bad apples” issue but that doesn’t mean everyone else is automatically guilty of being “those guys” too.

Now, about those qualifications…

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

I’m not good at reading minds so you tell me pod.

Fred, the “qualifications” comment was tongue in cheek and intended more for 40inchallthewaytofullblownseamonsterkrakenallthequalificationsallcaughtonwhitebraidreds.

The biggest best fish you can consistently catch year round in our fishery is big reds around 40 inches. At 1 point it was my favorite fish to catch and basically all I targeted. I’ve never fished the popular spots for big reds, didn’t have too… Like I said earlier in this post they are not hard to catch. I’ve caught one about 63 and about a half dozen in the mid 50s and more than enough in the 40s. A 60 incher takes no more skill than a 35 its just luck that its a big guy. Fred I know nothing of your credentials nor did I knock them. Post a report sometime. Its pretty obvious fritz fishes big reds. Killing them would be bad business. You know its more fun to not post the picture of something hard to believe. I like nay sayers it might motivate me to get another 50 incher. If you don’t believe in big fish you won’t catch one, it is that type of fishing. I’ve been lucky to land several fish of a lifetime. I know a lot of people who have red fished a lifetime and not broke 50 inches it makes their beer extra bitter and tough to swallow when u show them one.

Lol, this is the best Frosty alias ever!

One thing you’ll never have to worry about is me finding out that I was wrong and not manning up to it.

Hmmm. You know since you brought it up, I’ve know a lot of people to change. A couple very close to my heart. There you go again and speak what you have no clue about. A statement like that years ago would have probably ticked me of, today it makes me chuckle at the person that stated it. I know can’t help your nature and internet persona.

One thing I have learned very people do actually change, true colors always have a tendency to resurface. It seems God and life shattering experiences have a strong part in making a permanent change in a human.

You feel hopeless; like nothing can save you
And when it’s over, and it’s gone
You almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back
So that you could have the good

that’s just beautiful.

Actually that was lyrics to a Rihanna song

I’m curious how Fred knows how many Redfish I’ve caught. He threw out that comment twice hoping for a bite so here it is.

23 says you only need 20 baits for a day of fishing.

Don’t ever get so complacent that you get used to fake news. Interesting that you assume it is fake news though.

I don’t know but I’d bet three nickels I’ve caught more than you especially if we can include reds caught out of state. I mostly put that out there to see what Polly would say.

If age has anything to do with it, I may be in the running for the most red fish.

What’s wrong with taking pictures of your catch?

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

I love to see photos of a nice mess of fish. A quick picture is pretty neat, just a lot get to tied up in their “glory of the catch” and forget about the fish that needs to get back in the water. I’m by no means a Tree hugger. Just don’t believe in useless waste.

I think we can all agree that there is a line between a great photo for a future memory and ignorance in proper catch and release. Just a few months ago we were on the End of the North Jetties and watched a boat load come out anchor up and bring in a very nice red. We watched as the kid (18-24ish) grabbed it with both hands in the gills held it up got a pic, gave it to his buddy he took a pick and then handed it to a girl for a pic and then tried unsuccessfully to get another girl to hold it for a pic. Did the fish live? maybe? It’s release was a big belly flop back in the water. They pulled anchor and headed off… I didn’t see it float but the tide was going away from us. They basically anchored where we had our baits. Scenery was nice and they did play good music.

When you fish areas that are known breeder habitats, how do you keep from catching them?

Age or not, from the photos you’ve posted you sure would be in the running for Trout! Dang if you haven’t caught em up.
