Bull Reds Terminal Tackle

What’s the best terminal tackle set up for Bull Reds? Am in the process of “tackling up” to catch some of those monsters either at MI or Gtown jetties…also rod/reel combos would be helpful also…I’m aware of the fish finder rig and carolina rig but thought there may be other better ways…thanks for any help…

For carolina rigs, use a short leader and a big circle hook. It has been my experience that the weight closer took the hook helps set the circle hook in the corner of the mouth and reduce the incidence of gut hooking those big ones. Good Luck !

for rod and reel…i have a 10 foot MH ugly stick and biggest cabelas salt striker spinning reel i could order with 65lb cajun braid. sensitive enough for whiting, light enough that smaller sharks like sharpnose and bonnetheads are a blast, but strong enough for bigger sharks and bull reds no problem.

I use an Avet SX MC 5.3 and an Accurate Xnergy Rod. 30lb Momoi braid with 20lb mono topshot. Then carolina rig with 25lb fluoro leader.

60 lb leader. 30 pound trilene, sinker slide and 5/0 circle hook

Well, made up some rigs last night…5/0 circle, 6 inches 40 lb leader, sinker slide surrounded on each side with a bead and crimp on leader to hold the slide close to the 80 lb top swivel and put 30lb mono on the reel…gonna give it a try next week…thanks for all the help!
