Headed out on a solo mission since all my shrimping buddies were working on Veterans Day. Not another boat in site when I got to the bay.
Set poles near the marsh, ran them, catching anywhere from 2 - 6 shrimp, and shrimp were small. Pulled poles and headed towards the ocean. Reset, wishing I had waited another hour or two and brought help with me. I struggled a bit at first tossing net from stern while driving boat, was about to call it when it turned on just like that, right about the time I got the tossing while driving down. Three passes later, I got my cooler, but I am paying for it today, lol.
Like everyone else, I had to work much harder this season for the coolers I got. Hope next year is better.</font id=“Trebuchet MS”></font id=“maroon”>
Try using an electric motor. I see a guy in a green boat using an electric motor for bait shrimping and deep holing. He has one of those hand remote control “FOB’s” to control his directions. He told me he can get 3 to 4 hours shrimping on a single charge. He said it is rare he can find somebody to go with so he is usually solo shrimping. If you ever see him ask him about it.
Those were the exact words of the guy in the green boat. Can you imagine someone solo shrimping getting 3 or 4 cooler fulls. He also said he uses the electric motor to keep from wearing his self out. Every operation is centered around the bow platform area. No moving back and forth around the boat. By the way LSK, nice catch.
Find the shrimp…or general area…anchor…toss… Move to other side…repeat…not too bad that way if the shrimp are there…I have done this many times…this way too you can’t fuss at the driver for any mistakes you make
I shrimp alone quite often with a trolling motor! I can put myself right where i want to be each cast! And, cant fuss at anyone else for not getting me there! It’s hard to find someone that can go everytime i can, so it works out great!!
I’ve used one with the hand fob for a couple years. Works great if no wind and current. Can be a challenge with cross wind and current. I always end up one poling. Based on this year, I’d rather get skunked one poling than running poles. Lot less work for the same results.
