Bulls Bay and Harbor

Took my 13 year old son this weekend for father son time on the water. We did not have a “limit” agenda as he is allergic to shrimp (yeah…wears long rubber gloves to handle them) and I get stuck popping all the heads.

We hit the Harbor late afternoon from Shem Creek and threw the deep hole net a few times near crab banks. Not much showing up on depth finder but did catch some between 20-30 feet, mostly small and medium. Went cruising and dinner until dark and came back to crab banks and set 5 poles and hit them 4 times. We covered the bottom of the cooler with all small to medium on mid outgoing tide.

Put in at Buck Hall Saturday morning and hit Bulls Bay right before low tide. After getting stuck once we got close to middle of the Bay and set up all poles. We threw a couple of runs at low tide getting 5 shrimp per poll average. We did 4 runs after tide shifted and got 1/3 cooler. Probably had 150 in first run after tide started in but then slowed down. 10% large, 50% medium, 40% small. I really wanted to get farther into the bay where I got larger shrimp last year but was just too shallow at low tide when we showed up. Curious if anyone on the board has gotten further out in the bay mid bay?

Swarms of love bugs came with the tide so we decided to pull poles and headed up to Muddy Bay to deep hole. Sonar had lots of action but only pulling 5-10 small per throw. Went up to beach and found some cool shells and called it a weekend. DNR was checking people as they pulled out and he said our results were typical. Beautiful day and a great time with my son. Will be back Thursday- Saturday with boys weekend.

Anyone try Cowpens? Shrimp have been small there in recent years.
