Bulls bay salinity ok

Launched out of garris landing and shrimped in 2-3 ft of water right outside where guys deep hole. Only boat out there Monday at dead low and plenty of shrimp jumping. If your looking for size maybe not the place for you? Most medium size mixed with small. But if you want to take shrimp home? There are plenty up there. Good luck

Thanks for the report! Mediums eat just fine -

Would like the inside info on how I can get the boat in on a Monday instead of go to work … :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve never shrimped in BB before but would love to give it a try. Any tips on the best landing in the area to launch from? Looking at the map and seeing garris landing but have read that it’s tricky if you don’t know the area.

Also, which portion of the bay is the best area to day shrimp over bait…north or south?

Tiger, I’d put it at Buck Hall and go in to the bay that way (north)…for your first trip I wouldn’t try to go too far into the ocean/bay but just east into the bay and set up…cant get in too much trouble that way (oh, I’d also go at a lo tide, worse comes to worse you’re only stuck for a short while). you’ll see boats/poles as soon as you pop into the bay, look for the guy that has his poles set up at exactly 10yrds apart and perfectly straight, chances are it’s not his first rodeo. Wherever you set up, you’re gonna wanna have your poles facing the same direction (perpendicular to the current). Typically the giant shrimp are closer to the ocean side, but the ones closer to land aren’t tiny either. Have fun, be careful, pay attention…it’s definitely not easy to navigate, but it’s plenty doable.

tennispro…THANKS! I owe you one.

I hope to talk my shrimpin pals into heading down Sunday to give BB a try. I have a new lowrance chirp chartplotter/ GPS so I should be OK as far as finding my way around and staying out of trouble but yep, low tide will definitely be the way to go heading out.

Thanks again my friend…I’ll let you know how we do.

Note that the NOAA maps are not 100% accurate in that area. GPS will tell you that you should be in 18 feet of water while your SONAR reads 4 feet. Meanwhile, the 18' of water is another 50-100 yards away. Just a thought...

Look at the newest maps on Google earth! Can see deeper water if studied. big tides can change location of bars by 20’ overnight!

Thanks for the heads up guys.

I have noticed differences in the depth ranges on my chartplotter and the actual readings but it does at least give me an idea of where the larger channels and flats are.

I’m one of those who like to err on the cautious side, especially in unfamiliar territory so we’ll definitely be taking it easy in the area. Another note…looks like it’s gonna be pretty windy Sunday so I may not make it down this weekend but will definitely check this area out soon.

Thanks to tennispro for the advise. I now have a new favorite spot!

I have to ask though since I’ve churned a bit of mud the last few trips, I’ve seen some setting up at high tide in 4-5 foot of water. Those spots are out of water once the tide drops. I don’t quite understand the logic or even how they get out of there. What gives?
