Went out last night around 10:30. Slow start for the first hour or so @ 3-5 per cast. Re-baited the poles as the tide was slacking off and waited about fifteen minutes. 2 full passes and 3 poles later we had a full cooler and were headed back to the landing.
Up next to the island the rush was only lasting me about 30 min. and I just cant cooler out that fast. I had decent numbers but only about a quarter cooler per bottom of the tide. I spent the night with them just to catch the other tides and went away very tired with 3/4 cooler. I just wanted to see what the other tides did. We kept anchored down and test casted untill they were on and went to hit the poles… lot of effort for 3/4 cooler but they were bigger during the night. Dead low and daylight Sat. morning turned them off, we picked up and left. I did catch a 22’ Black Drum on the way home!
5 trips and 4 coolers…Thunderstorms got us on our first trip so we really didnt get anything. Although we have been succesful, this year has me re-thinking everything I thought I new about bait shrimping.
We have always caught shrimp from low to high tide, and if the water wasnt moving you wouldnt catch anything. This year it has been better @ High and during falling tide. In the past meal/clay has been far more succesful than Bait Binder but this year has been the opposite.
