Okay guys, If you were “fool” enough to skrimp this early after the massive rains … uhhhh, which I am, … would ya do Bulls or the Harbor? Which would be the best bet?
harbor salinity has been reading between 4 and 8ppt, I would definitely try the place with no freshwater input first. waiting for those crab bank reports to start rolling in after tonight!
I would say try Bulls Bay over the harbor. The harbor has been pretty slow this year compared to Bulls Bay. With the fresh water in the harbor I would think it will be even slower. If you do hit the harbor maybe try the deeper water! Good luck!
Barbawang is there somewhere on the internet I can get the salinity numbers?
just seeing this, sorry.
short answer, not that I know of.
long answer, USGS water data here: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/sc/nwis/current/?type=flow
can be customized to show sites reporting salinity, but there are very few of them. one in the cooper river looks like this: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/sc/nwis/uv/?site_no=02172053&PARAmeter_cd=00480
most sites, such as customs house (which I use as the harbor temp gauge) report conductivity, which can be used as a proxy for salinity but I’m not sure how to directly interpret it. DNR took harbor measurements last week and this week, and salinity seems to be coming back up slowly. there’s also a bit of a vertical gradient even in the shallows, more fresh water running across the top.
