Hit the launch about 6 pm and met up with nikonjedi to shot some pics, shoot the bull, and do a bit of fishing.
Low tide, warm water, plenty of finger mullet and itty bitty menhaden at the ramp. Most shrimp were too small to stay in 1/2 inch mesh net.
We set up in a creek hoping to find some reds. Salinity must be down - caught a big FAT blue cat 31 inches and 14 pounds and a 36 inch longnose gar.
Ken had a nice blowup on topwater as the sun was going down, but no hookup.
Nice to be on the water for a couple of hours.

went out there a week ago and saw birds dive bombing the water and the water blowing up with fish hitting bait. Checked it out, looked like what I was seeing was Gar everywhere. Is it normal for gar to be that heavy out there?
gar are THICK in the Cooper and upper Wando this year… Haven’t seen them this thick before… Tommay got him one yesterday I got one the other day in the Wando… good fight but a PITA…
Tommy, well done. Those catfish are fun even though they don’t fight as hard as a red pound for pound. It has been a few years since I have caught a gar. How was the fight? It sucks being stuck here in Indianapolis on a business trip. Hopefully the weather will be better when I get back next week.
