You caught a bunch of mullet in your cast net. Cut them up into bite size pieces, rig them on a Texas bottom rig and you will catch spot tail in Bushy Park. You could grill the mullet on a piece of cedar, salt, pepper and butter. When they are cooked throw away the mullet and eat the cedar.

Man they eat all the time up in NC. Mostly grilled or smoked. I know people who fry it too. It has a little more of a fishy taste than a drum or trout does but it is not bad.

hahaha love it ! again i don’t really eat fish but i’ll have about 100 Asian family members at my house on the fourth and they eat any thing even carp, and bait fish like literary they will cook your bait in the morning if your not careful… so they will eat it no problem. but i got a giggle at this post.

thanks for posting!

Mullet is great fried. Live finger mullet is good inshore slam bait and cut bait will catch reds

I’m a high class redneck.

Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.

Mullet CAN be good. Snap the neck and bleed the fish, cut out all of the red meat if you decide to fry it. Very good smoked whole. Ate it all the time when I had an internship at Mote marine lab and couldn’t catch or shoot a mangrove for dinner, or afford a pack of ramen noodles for that matter. Was very against eating at first, always just thought of it as a bait fish. My boss changed my mind real quick though. Not the first fish of choice but it is not bad at all.

They eat smoked mullet all over FL. I have also heard good things about smoked mullet dip.

cut one of those mullet in half and secure it to a crab net…they work great for blue crab too! yes as others mentioned chunks of big mullet will work good for redfish and if you toss a big piece out in the surf sharks as well.
