Bushy Park 1/25

I took my brother out with me today. He had never caught a redfish or a trout, so I decided to try to put him on some. I figured the trout would be the easy part. If we found some redfish that would be a bonus. We started working the edges at the top of the horseshoe bend at the north end of Yellowhouse Creek.
We found some trout tearing up some minnows. We tossed our mud minnows at them and got a bunch of hit-and-misses. The trout suddenly decided it was time to leave and next thing we know, we were on top of a school of redfish. We pulled two out and missed two or three each. They were very active and swimming all around in front of us until the tide stopped. Once the water stopped moving, all the fish disappeared.
I have seen folks pull some nice catfish out of a hole in there, so I decided we should give it a shot. It would give us something to do until the water started moving again. My brother got a few nibbles, but I managed to nail a nice blue right in the corner of the mouth.
After the tide started coming in, we couldn’t find any more fish. We tried lots of different spots and worked our way all the way down to the south end of Yellowhouse. We got a few more hits, but we couldn’t get them to eat anything.
We didn’t get skunked, my brother got a beautiful red for his first ever, and I got to go fishing with my brother. I have to say that today was a great day.

If that’s all I have to worry about…there’s nothing to worry about.

The fish gods LOVE newbies! They always give them a dandy fish to bring them into the fishing fold. I like the one of you hooked up. You weren’t actually having fun out there, were ya?! LOL!

Great job!

You got that right Vinman. I think my brother is “hooked” now. I’ll never forget the smile on his face when he was fighting that fish and then when he finally got it in the boat. That’s what it’s all about.
I usually don’t come home with many pictures of me, but my brother is just as picture happy as I am.
We had a blast. I’m glad you liked my report.
That’s the first time I’ve ever gotten on top of a school and not spooked them. It was pretty amazing watching them swim around and hitting our minnows. The clear water out there right now makes it really easy to see them.
Anyway, I can’t wait to get back out there. Hopefully my brother will be able to go again this week.
